The Limousin is well known amongst French ramblers for its proliferation of country trails (chemins) which provide some of the best countryside walking in France.

The Creuse region is, arguably, the wildest terrain of all with small, picturesque, villages and hamlets thinly scattered through the forests which cover the Ambazac hills. The walks featured on this site are all within, or in the immediate vicinity of, the area known as "Pays des Eaux Vives"(Land of Fast Waters), one of the most beautiful and untouched areas in the Limousin. The area boasts enormous forests of Oak, Pine and Chestnut, fast-flowing streams, still lakes and a plethora of wildlife including many species of hawk and buzzard, and of course wild boar and deer.

The trails are all well waymarked, many of them open to mountain biking as well - although thankfully not motor cycles. Here you can experience the rural France one normally only reads and dreams about - pretty hamlets with friendly people going about their daily lives caring little for what goes on in the world outside the village, dense forest trails which lead suddenly to beautiful lakes and rivers and another wonderful vista to admire - there is always something to stop and wonder at - such is the Limousin.
